Wenn ich dann erzähle, dass Preußen 1910 etwa 40 Millionen Einwohner hatte (ich schreibe immer 40.000.000 das sieht eindrucksvoller aus) und eine Fläche von knapp 350.000 km², bekommt man eine ungefähre Vorstellung. Da diese Flächengröße den Meisten nichts sagt, erwähne ich gerne, dass Deutschland heute knapp 360.000 km² hat und Kalifornien im Vergleich dazu etwa 430.000 km².

Wenn man bedenkt, dass jeder der Einwohner mindestens zwei Urkunden „verursacht“ hat – nämlich Geburts- und Sterbeurkunde –  sind wir theoretisch alleine bei den 1910 lebenden Preußen bei 80 Millionen Urkunden. Ich weiß, dass diese Zahl rein hypothetisch ist, da sie keine Heiraten beinhaltet, die Geburtsurkunden der vor dem 1. Oktober 1874 wegfallen, usw. aber es soll ja auch nur eine grobe Vorstellung der gewaltigen Anzahl der Urkunden vermittelt werden.

Da es in Deutzland (wie neulich jemand schrieb) leider kein Gesamtregister aller Standesämter gibt bei dem man anrufen und nachfragen kann wo „Johann Müller“1878 in Preußen geboren worden war, versteht ein jeder sofort, warum es im deutschen Sprachraum Ahnenforschung heißt. Aber genau das ist ja auch das, was es so interessant und spannend macht.

Nun bin ich aber wieder einmal vom eigentlichen Thema abgekommen. Zurück also zum Weltbevölkerungstag: Dieser jährliche Weltbevölkerungstag der UN wird seit 1994 begangen. In jenem Jahr hatten sich erstmals Politiker aus 179 Ländern zu einer UN-Bevölkerungskonferenz in Ägypten getroffen. Die Staatengemeinschaft in Kairo hatte sich unter anderem darauf geeinigt, allen Frauen und Männern Zugang zu sicheren, wirksamen und erschwinglichen Familienplanungsmethoden zu gewähren.

Derzeit leben laut den Vereinten Nationen rund 6,5 Milliarden Menschen auf der Welt. Im Jahr 1804 waren es noch nur rund eine Milliarde und statistisch gibt es im Jahr 2050 geschätzte 9,1 Milliarden Menschen auf unserem Planeten.
